Things that I read in last 9 months

by Tejas Patel Email

Before nine months I used to keep myself on top of things by going through hundred of sites by using Google Reader or some other news aggregator. The things going on in my life in last nine months has not helped me to keep up with the routine (so such a huge gap on this blog). But I had this urge to keep myself on top of the most important things happening around me when I can. I am sure I have missed so many important/interesting services in this time but hopefully if they are good enough, I will see or hear about them any how.

So while I was caught up with things, I decided to make it a point to at least go through Techmeme.com site when I could. So I did get a glimpse of what was going on in the Tech Internet Space. Although I could not always spare the time to read through the linked articles, I still got the hint of what was going on. A tool that I started using was Twitter. Although I don’t twitter as much as I could, I am having fun following Frank Arrigo’s twittering. I followed him on his journey to USA while he was on a vacation which was interesting. In my drive to improve my productivity I tried to keep on track with the links on Del.icio.us. Yes, Lifehacker and Brazen Careerist are on the list too.

While traveling to and from work, instead of just sitting in the train idle or reading MX (local free evening newspaper) I decided to read books or articles. So far I have read through a Self Help book, completed reading few technical magazines and have read few many news and journal articles in my native language Gujarati (I hardly used to do this before, so have enjoyed reading it again). I hardly used to play online or offline games before 9 months, but now I have developed liking for the game of Suduko. I have printed booklet from KrazyDad.com site and now can finish a Suduko in about 25 minutes (my train trip is 30-35 minutes).

So having too much time away from Internet, I have made myself enjoy readings other topics than just reading Tech Blogs and Tech Magazines and blogging mostly all tech. This period is the time before I started blogging and I knew what news aggregator does!

While I am writing this, I got a comment from Penelope to my previous post and I agree. Blogging is like going to gym. We just need to show up to get into the habbit again. I don’t think I will worry about putting unique content up here, but even if I get myself to be present on this blog, would be a good restart for me.

This makes me wonder, what do you read when you are not reading blogs or following your aggregator?

Soon to be DAD

by Tejas Patel Email

I had to reveal the good news on here! Komal and I are soon to be parents of a Great soul to be. Along with all other things that are keeping me busy, now taking care of Komal and her needs has become out most important to me as well. So part of my time now also goes to Komal, spending some quality time with her and getting new things for our new home (this one is time consuming!).

One of the website that is helping a lot understanding what is going on is Baby Center. I try to make it a point to check Baby Center's weekly email and see how's our baby shaping in the week. These are exciting times for us.

The first trimester is over and both the mother and the tiny baby is fine. I am enjoying Komal getting bigger as days are passing. Will keep all posted as to how we are going with the journey in coming months.

Do anybody have tips or experiences they want to share with me here?

Good to be blogging again

by Tejas Patel Email

:> it's good to be blogging again. I have ignored this blog for a long long time now.

So where have I been?

Work at Accenture is really busy and does more then 8 hours of my day. Infact I have not seen even a single 8 hour day at Accenture ( I am not complaining about this though). On top of that I am still working for my previous Employer (contracting too) on a part time basis. So among all this work load it becomes hard to do some quality blogging. So much so that I even had to abandon reading Google Reader for a long time and be connected to any of my feeds.

But the good news is that lately I have made a point to at least keep up with the headlines on Techmeme and that is working well. One other blog that has kept me glued onto it Brazen Careerist which I try to read as often as possible as well. I have missed blogging all these months. All I can say is I will try to blog as much as possible.

If you are one of the few regular readers of this blog, I am sure lately you have seen skins changing on this blog. It is due to the fact that I have upgraded to the latest version of blog engine and the old skin was not compatible with the latest version of engine. But I will get onto it eventually.

Feels good to type for this blog after such a long time :D.

Workplace update

Time to give an update. I joined Accenture office on this Monday the 5th, March. It is overwhelming the amount of information you got to digest in first few days. Especially when you are working on projects and got to catch up with the rest of the team. Last three days my brain has processed a lot of information and a lot more data has been stored which will be processed (the data will make sense the more deep I get into things and get more understanding of things that I am working on) in coming days. I am working on interesting stuff which I don't think I can talk about. Making new friends as I go along and looking forward to meet many more in coming days, weeks and months.

I am on 300 Latrobe Street by the way. So if anybody wants to catch up during lunch or after hours, send me an email or leave a comment over here. Is there any other blogger from Accenture?

Might be looking for a new web hosting company

by Tejas Patel Email

I got a strange email this morning from my hosting company. As per the email they say that my website itejas.com is consuming a lot of server resources which is not acceptable for a shared hosting site. It provides me with some generic statistics of the resources used which does not tell me much. They told me that they have moved my site to a non-production server for the time being till I either resolve the problem or moved to dedicated servers.

Now I don't have the time nor resources to rectify the issue. I have done few basic things that I could think of including updating the blog engine to the latest version and disabling few other scripts from the main page. Figuring out the problem is time consuming and with so many things happening in the life at the moment, I don't think I can prioritize this issue in front of other. So I have mailed the staff back telling them about my changes and asking them if it has made any difference to the shared hosting server performance.

If not and no better way shows up, I think I will be looking for a new reliable web hosting provider. Can my readers me suggest few names? It is better to go with some recommended names then totally alien providers.
